I AM SO ANNOYED, PISSED OFF AND EXASPERATED.
I went to do my IC today and because my chinese name was written unclearly the women rubbed the pen ink and guess what? My name, from 黄思棋 became 黄思祺. I was like, wtf? And i realised what happened.
My father went to do my birthcert and he was the one who wrote my chinese name. And because he is no good in chinese, my 棋 became 祺. When my mom found out, she used the pen to overwrite the wrong character which leads to the unclear word.
The women asked me if i want to change the character. If i want to, i must pay $40 (wtf.) so my dad declined. Then the woman told me that in school, i have to write my name as 黄思祺. That point of time, i was super blur so i didnt really feel anything.
But now, im sooooo annoyed. Firstly, i have been writing my name as 黄思棋 for all my life and suddenly someone tells me im wrong? And if i have to change my name, the meaning is totally off lor! My mom name me 思棋 because she wants me to think (思) before i act, just like in a game of chess (棋).
I went to check the english meaning for 祺 and it says, felicity. Here are the meanings for felicity:

I know its sounds nice and alright. But imagine one day your name is changed (not to your own will) and even the meaning is changed! I am so not happy.
They told me that if i ever want to change my name, i have to hire a lawyer and pay about $60?
But i just thought of something! Some people ask me why my sister have english name while i dont. My mom told me its because my sis chinese name, Wong Si Jin, the Jin sounds like Jean so she has a english name. Now that my last character has an english translation which happens to be an english name, I CAN NAME MYSELF FELICITY, WOOHOO! According to (
here), the name felicity is a very rare name.
But it sounds weird... =.=
So from now onwards, i have to write 祺. Did i mention that its weird?
